On the 21st of September we held a charity drive at our monthly game which raised an incredible £5,000 for Berkshire Healthcare Charity.
Making a difference is part of our DNA and, instead of handing over cash, we take on projects or purchase material goods that will benefit the charity for years to come. Craig Wearne, our Vice Captain, decided that several departments would benefit from the money raised and fulfilled the following projects:
Dementia Friendly wards received clocks, dolls and sensory pets to the value of £1,000
Family support and Memory mould packs, to the value of £1,000, were purchased to help bereaved families, and £1,200 was set aside for Cuddle Cot ™ technology, giving parents precious time with their infants for Palliative Care
CAMHS clinic rooms received £1,000 towards supplying calming space sensory seating for autistic and neurodivergent children
Prospect Park Hospital received a Mind and Motion Outdoor Gym worth £1,100 to help improve mental health recovery
It goes without saying that, without our sponsors and dedicated members, these projects wouldn’t have come to fruition.
Nomads donates 9 bicycles to the Rhodes Foundation Scholars
Bryan Burger, Ian Wright and Basil Burger had the pleasure of donating 10 bicycles on behalf of Nomads UK the the Rhodes Foundation at Rhodes House in Oxford. The grateful recipients from the Rhodes Foundation Southern African Scholars are doing post graduate degrees at Oxford University.
The recipients come from all walks of life and were extremely grateful for the generous donations and the difference the bicycles have made in their lives.
It is a truism that: “No country can achieve sustainable economic development without substantial investment in human capital.” ~Prof Mandla Makhanya, VC UNISA, 2020.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and arguably the preeminent global scholarship programme. It is a merit-based and place based post-graduate scholarship, which is awarded internationally to talented young graduates wishing to pursue Masters or PhD (DPhil) studies at Oxford University only.
The Rhodes is a unique Scholarship in that it is inclusive and based on talent. It seeks well-rounded, young people who have the energy to use their talent and opportunities to the full; are values-driven, principled individuals, who have the courage to become ethical leaders and stand up for the world.
“I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the bicycle and the lock. It has literally transformed my commute to school. What used to be a 50-minute walk is now so much easier and faster. I’m incredibly thankful for this thoughtful initiative.”
The Knights Foundation provides support, sensory experiences, holidays and equipment to disabled children, seriously ill children and their families. They aim to know more about these children and young carers and how to support them in their roles.
Their ultimate aim was to have an accessible and luxurious property along the South coast, accessible for those with restricted abilities, to enjoy stress free family holidays, free of charge. This dream was made a reality in September 2019 when they purchased The Knights Foundation Lodge.
